  3. Right-click on the process and select this option “Go to Service(s).”
  4. It will highlight or mark the program that uses the svchost process.
  5. Now right-click on it and chose the Restart option, this will reboot it.

Even after restarting the svchost process if it is still using a lot of CPU/RAM resource, then it is best to stop that process. All you have to do is right-click on the process and choose “Stop.” You can also choose to disable a specific service. Just right-click on it and chose the option “Open Services.” Now locate it from all the Windows Services. Once you locate it, double-click on it and select “Disabled” option from the “Startup type” drop down the list. Once done click on the “Apply” button and then click “Ok” button. Solution 3 – Clear Event Viewer Log

Hence it is best to clear the “SoftwareDistribution” folder, below are steps for it.

  1. Open Run Command by pressing Windows Key + R.
  2. Type the following without quotes “services.msc” and press Enter.
  3. Now look for the service name “Windows Update”, right-click on it select the option “Stop“.
  4. Now go to C:\\Windows and find SoftwareDistribution folder.
  5. Once you locate the folder, delete it.
  6. Now Restart your PC and then check for Windows updates.

Use Windows Update Troubleshooter

Go to Micorsoft.com and download the Windows Update Troubleshooter. Once it’s downloaded, run it and select this option “Detect problems and apply the fixes for (Recommended)”. This will automatically recognize the problems and fix them. Once it’s done check if you still encounter the glitch.

It is also recommended to download the latest version of Windows Update Agent. Once you download it, install it on your computer. If the issue still occurs after installing the updates, uninstall the updates you installed because that is the cause of this troublesome error.
